Probably the most outrageous cache placement I can recall having seen 🙂. A tree climb, requiring climbing equipment, in a large and very beautiful, but also very busy pub beer garden.
The location is gorgeous, right bedside the Exeter canal. The tree is simply magnificent. The garden is beautiful, and on a glorious summer day, at lunchtime, it was busy 🙂. Luckily the majority of people are 100 feet away, on the staging by the river, else it would have been too dangerous to use a throw bag to set the rope.
Normally I eschew muggly locations, but this one is different - it is SO over the top that it comes down the other side 🙂. And it has permission to be there, which makes me so much more comfortable.
A cleverly turned out cache, neatly made, great attention to detail and some gentle humour. The only way I can think it might have got more points would be if the drinks were free 🙂.

So many amazing things about this cache - the inventiveness, originality, humour, technical ingenuity, the sheer scale of it, and the immense effort put into its creation. But it's a cache that needs a lot of maintenance for relatively few visits - when we attempted it, a couple of things didn't work. And these things were show-stoppers. We did eventually find the cache, but only because we had the luxury of phoning a previous finder to pass each "blockage". Without this, the cache would have had a huge TOP CACHE score - it may even have been the highest scoring cache in the West Country!

The cache page had the correct co-ordinates. My GPSr said a couple of feet, and there was nothing wrong with it. Then came the dawning realisation, perversely amusing, that I was still 200 feet from the cache. In the wet weather and very slippery ground it took another 2 mile walk to cover those 200 feet.
It mattered not a jot that the cache had been muggled and stripped of all its contents, other than a note to say "Thanks for the stuff". I loved that moment of realisation, I loved the cache location, and I loved the superb walk beside the river back to my motor-cycle.

I found the Cave Troll's Lair quite a while ago, and the "other" lair has been on my to do list for ages. On the way to Devon to walk the Devonport Leat I stopped of to tackle it. It took ages to battle my way through the undergrowth on the cliff to reach the start point. The cave itself was no problem as I've now been underground lots of times. But then there was the battle to get back up the cliff! Exhausting 🙂. Great location 🙂.

Only the second cache to receive an award for a DNF. Time and tide wait for no man, and it was the tide that ultimately stopped me from finding this one.
A fantastic location for a cache, similar to, though easier to get to and less difficult to climb than Monkey Island. This cache earned almost all of its points for the location and the WOW factor - had it been a better container, and better maintained, it could have been not just in my top 2% but right up there in my top 5 with Monkey Island.
And a final update - it transpired the cache had been missing, and was replaced - and some years later, another visit turned this into a find 🙂.
